What postage amount do I need?

From save-the-date cards to bridal shower invitations, wedding invitations, RSVPs and thank you notes, bridal mailing comes in many different shapes, sizes and weights. To make sure you don't over-spend on postage, here are a few simple guidelines to follow

First consider size and thickness.

Your mailing will either be a "Letter" or a "Large Envelope (Flat)."

LETTER Envelopes typically have dimensions between 5" and 11.5" long, 3.5" and 6.125" high, and 0.007" and 0.25" thick.

Note: Letters are subject to a $0.21 surcharge if they 1) are square, 2) rigid or 3) have certain nonmachinable characteristics.

LARGE Envelopes (Flats) cost more than letters and typically have dimensions between 11.5" and 15" long, 6.125" and 12" high, and 0.25" and 0.75" thick.

Now consider the weight.

Weight is very important to determine the postage amount. Here are some typical weights and rates:

Letters and Postcards:
Postcard: $0.34
1 oz: $0.48
2 oz: $0.69
3 oz: $0.90
3.5 oz: $1.11
Large Envelopes (Flat)
1 oz: $0.98
2 oz: $1.19
3 oz: $1.40
4 oz: $1.61
5 oz: $1.82
6 oz: $2.03

Tip

Weigh it twice...send it once.
Accuracy is everything when sending your wedding mail. Make sure you weigh your mail on a scale that is precise to 0.1 oz. Common kitchen scales or the scale at the Post Office are your best bets. Bathroom scales or "guessing the weight" are not wise options. We know too many people who guessed their way into a load of returned wedding invitations.

Tip

Save money and use postcards for RSVP and save-the-dates
Postcards are $0.34 versus a letter which is $0.48. Save $0.14 per mailpiece by making your RSVP and save-the-date cards in postage form.
